Hi there
If anyone has access to the actual 1881 census images I would be very grateful if you could check to see what name you think is written here.
Scotspeople transcription
Film 0203588 Ref 576-1 Dist 4 Page 6
Annie Gourley 25 Married Seamans Wife Ireland
Annie Gourley 4m daughter Salcoates, Argyll
Ancestry transcription
Annie Gawley 25 Married Seamans Wife Ireland
Annie Gawley 4m daughter Saltcoates, Argyll
It's a longshot but possibly my missing Collins children are with them although the ages aren't quite right. Margaret Collins 12 (s/b 13), Euphemia Collins 7 (s/b 11). The rest of this Collins family are in London. I have found no other connections to any Gourleys or Gawleys so far but I do have a connection to the name Gowrie.
Many thanks
Lyla

Hi Lyla,
The 1881 census images are not available online. The ScotlandsPeople transcriptions should be the same as on the Latter Day Saints CDs. Ancestry seem to have used OCR software to read the microfilms and their transcriptions are often a bit flaky.
If you can get to an LDS Family History Centre or one of the libraries that keeps these, then you can view the microfilm for that census district.
The LDS CDs give:
Dwelling: Green Street
Census Place: Ardrossan, Ayr, Scotland
Source: FHL Film 0203588 GRO Ref Volume 576-1 EnumDist 4 Page 6
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
Annie GOURLEY M 25 F Ireland
Rel: Head
Occ: Seaman Wife
Annie GOURLEY 4 m F Saltcoats, Argyll, Scotland
Rel: Daughter
Margaret COLLINS 12 F Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Rel: Boarder
Occ: Scholar
Euphemia COLLINS 7 F Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Rel: Boarder
Occ: Scholar
Annie COLLINS 5 F Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Rel: Boarder
Part of Saltcoats was in Ardrossan parish (the remainder was in Stevenston parish), and the LDS CDs quote the parish name, often instead of the town name. The address in that record could have been Saltcoats (town) in Ardrossan (parish). That would be sorted out by viewing the microfilm. Saltcoats, Argyllshire should be a mistake. Saltcoats was in Ayrshire.
All the best,
AndrewP

Thanks Annette
My Collinses were children of Henry and Janet so it is clearly not them. I think I was trying too hard to make things fit.
I have just found a possible death for my Margaret in South Shields in 1872 (the rest of the family did live there in 1871). I have ordered the certificate so fingers crossed.
The one I'd really like to find is Euphemia Collins born 1870 in South Shields. In 1871 census she is listed as Wilhemina Collins and in 1891 she is staying with her sister Robina (Gowrie) in Glasgow. Her brothers Henry born 1873 Tillicoultry and Thomas born 1865 Glasgow are also missing from 1881 England or Scotland (the parents and sister Robina are at different addresses in London).
Anyway, thanks for listening
