My latest brick wall ....George Sneddon b abt 1822
George Sneddon b abt 1822 (year taken from 1841, 1851 and 1881 censuses) His d.c. says his parents are James Sneddon and blank Burt. The 1851 census states he was born in Rutherglen. Can't find his birth but there are 2 girls b 1811 and 1813, Helen and Janet to James Sneddon and Rachel Burt. Is Rutherglen one of the parishes that doesn't show male births?
Could they be his sisters?
There are lots of submissions for these parents. The Fife d.c.Rachel Burt/Snaddon is a red herring, as far as my lot are concerned. I have her d.c. and have found her on censuses that don't relate to George (more SP credits!!!)
Where next?

Hi Mary
Yes I have seen this submission and the date of death is correct (I have his d.c.) His mother is shown as -------- Burt.
I have seen all the submissions. The only 2 extractions are the 2 girls Helen and Janet (1811 and 1813)
I just wondered if the submitter(s) guessed that his mother's name was Rachel, or is is that Rutherglen only shows the female births and the submitter has actually seen the OPR's.
The only clue I have to point out his mother being Rachel is that his second daughter(4th child) was called Rachel. His first 3 children follow the naming pattern

It's horrible when you get one of these, isn't it?
Have to say I'm really looking forward to seeing the OPR images online. OK, so a lot of them have very little more information that the search result says, but somehow, being able to actually see the image gives more of a sense of the people.
I just know you'll crack this one

There are quite a few extractions for this couple - a couple of children born in Dunfermline and one in Stirling. No George extraction though.
I did a parent search on the IGI James Sneddon and just Rachel in the mother box.

Hi Annette
So confusing!!!
I found a death for Rachel Snaddon/Burt in 1866 in Dunfermline. Widow of James Snaddon, so thought I'd cracked it.
Found her in the 1861 census living in Inverkeithing:-
George Sneddon, head, unmarried, aged 22, Coal Miner. born Dunfermline
James Sneddon, Brother, unmarried, aged 32, Coal Miner.born Dunfermline
Rachel Sneddon, mother, widow, aged 65. born Dunfermline
Elizabeth Sneddon, sister, unmarried, aged 18, Damask Weaver. born Dunfermline.
This George would have been born around 1839 and he is unmarried.
My George was born around 1822 and was married in 1841 to Margaret Proudfoot. So this lot are not mine, at least I don't think so.
The really wierd thing about this lot is that the informant to Rachel's death is son, Frances Sneddon.
Now if Jack reads this, he will remember about the Francis Sneddon that was shown as the son of Mary Blair/Sneddon in the 1901 census, aged 23.
Obviously can't be the same Francis/Frances Sneddon, but is this more than a coincidence?
So I think the Dunfermline lot on the IGI belong to this Rachel Burt and James Snaddon.
Who the Stirling one is goodness only knows.
My George shows his place of birth as Old Monkland in 1841, Looks like "Catfel" Lanark in 1851,Rutherglen in 1881 and Eastfield Lanark in 1891!!!
More confused by the minute
