Hello,
It appears that the Margaret Wilson I was looking for was not born in Beith, but in Dalry. She was born about 1844 or 1845. Would someone be able to find her in Dalry in the census of 1851 preferably or 1861? I thought I would find her in Dalry from Ayrshireroots.com, but she isn't there. The 1851 Dalry may be the best source in case the family moved to Beith where she married Robert Stewart in 1864.
Did people usually have a middle name in Scotland? There is a Mary Wilson born in 1845 in Dalry. Could she have been Mary Margaret or something?
Thanks,
Barbara

Hi Margaret
The 1851 User Group test site shows 3 entries for a Margaret Wilson, aged between 5 and 7 in Ayshire, in Beith or Dalry.
One of the Beith entries doesn't fit, the place of birth is actually shown as Stevenston.
The other Beith birthplace is for a 7 year old, parents Robert and Agnes; the Dalry entry is a 7 year old, parents John and Ann.

1871 Beith census
I appreciate the help that you have already sent me. I am still not sure about Margaret Wilson's birthplace. She was married to Robert Stewart. Both were born about 1844 or 1845. I have responses about the 1881 census which says Margaret was born in Dalry. I want to see if she is listed as from Dalry in 1871 as well. The LDS listings have two versions of Margaret's birth. I probably will have to order a certificate of her death or the marriage or something, but before I spend money to do that, I would like to know how she is listed in 1871 with husband Robert Stewart.
Thank you once again,
Barbara

Hi Barbara
You can look for the family on the 1861 & 1871 in Scotland at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for a small fee, if you have not already looked there.
Best wishes

Hi Barbara,
This "might" be your Wilson family - from the 1851 & 1861 indexes only (which don't have full details),
but as Lesley mentioned, you'll get full 1861 details on SP (1851 online soon...)

John GIBSON age 82 might be the family head in this 1851.

ps, the 1864 Robt Stewart/Mgt Wilson marriage in the IGI is a submission; wonder where the extract is.

I only remember because I have quite a few Ayrshire ancestors and I know the county has been fairly well covered by those amazing volunteers .

Dalry lookup please
Thank you all!! There is evidence on the LDS site that there was a Margaret Wilson born of John Wilson and Ann Gibson in Dalry. But there's also a Margaret Wilson born of two other prople in Beith. CONFUSION! Am I reading this correctly
John Gibson age 82 is the head of the house and father of daughter Ann Wilson as listed. He would have been 54 when she was born, but I guess that would be possible. Ann, age 28, has the Wilson name (from marriage probably to John Wilson). The other names would be her children. Right? Since Jack also listed the 1861 Beith census, that explains why Margaret lived in Beith later and married Robert Stewart. I wonder where John Wilson, father of Margaret and husband of Ann, is. Maybe he's never home for census-takers.
I was just debating whether I should use the Scotlands People site or go order LDS films. And then, here it all is on my computer. You all are so helpful!!!! Thanks,
Barbara
