Free BMD - found info where do I go now.....

Post by MaryB » Sun Feb 12, 2006 10:59 am

As I am more used to the Scottish research rather than English :(

Just found my gt gt grandparents marriage. I did see 2 birth certificates, with a date of marriage, (greenock registra office)however one states the marriage took place in Norwich, and the other states the marriage took place in Woolwich. FreeBMD has the place of marriage as Greenwich. The birth certificate I have for my gt grandmothers brother doesn't list a marriage :? although born in Greenock, Scotland 1870 and I have yet to find my gt grandmothers birth certificate - census only says born England :(

Also managed to find the surname of my other gt gt grandparent from her marriage in southshields.

Would anyone know the best place to order these certificates

have just located 2 possibles for my gt grandmother birth

1. Jane Carnow Pearse born Flegg (norfolk)

2. Jane Pearce born Greenwich

not sure what one to go with as my gt grandmothers death certificate, lists her as Jane Curnow Pearce
Black Isle - Beaton Bethune Campbell
Inverness - Mackintosh
Aberdeen - Mitchell Leslie
Ireland - Cosgrove McGuire
Southshields - Patterson/Pattieson Campbell Sloan
Greenock - Boyle McPhail Blair McKechnie Clark

Hello Mary

You can order the certificate on here

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Greenwich now comes under Woolwich Council. Norwich is miles away (but does come under Norfolk i think) so take your pick ! The middle name Carnow could suggest this is the one ? or you may just have to order both. Could turn out to be cousins !
The English census is so annoying, mostly just putting Scotland as birth place, very few of mine name the place
