I have uploaded their marriage cert.

When it is approved can anyone make out the name that has been scored out under the name Crowe in the When, Where and How Married section

Jean

I've had a look at it under the highest possible magnification that is still readable, but all that I can say is that there's most probably an "i" in it somewhere.

On the original register in at New Register House it just might be the case that it's slightly clearer........

Thanks David

I thought this might be the case.

I had hoped that it might have been her maiden name. Ah weel back to the drawing board.

Hi Jean
As a wild guess - and I do really mean wild :? it could be Henrie...but then it could be many other things too...

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Jean

I think it says Cowie. Look at the capital 'C' of Crowe and the 'e' on the end of Crowe which rises just above the rest of the word as does the letter on the end of the crossed-out word.

My guess would be that whoever was recording it either mis-heard or mis-read the word to start with. The two are fairly similar and this seems more likely than that it is her maiden name. Pity though!

Believe or not I was on the verge of suggesting that the capital letter in the deleted surname was "C" but just wasn't sufficiently confident .......

Hi David

Years of experience deciphering handwriting when marking exercise books helps a lot

(Facing a class means you also develop a talent for reading things upside down, too - though this hasn't proved particularly helpful genealogically so far!)

Hi Jean,

I thought it said Cowie as well and that was before I read Mary's posting.
