Please can somebody help me with this?
This relates to info on Death Certificates. My Mother went to the Registery Office in Clydebank about 15 years ago to obtain a copy of her great-uncles Death Certificate. My brother had just been diagnosed with Renal Failure & she had an inkling that had been the cause of Great-Uncles death.
He had went off to War & was serving in Ireland when he was shot by what is now the IRA.This left this sixteen year old, tall handsome lad paralysed. He lived until 1919 when he was given a full Military Funeral & is buried in a CWG. His Mother dreamt of this funeral several years before it happened even before the outbreak of WW1-she awoke to the sounds of horses & on looking out the window saw a flag-draped coffin shaped object in a carriage -but my"fey" family is another story.
Anyway the Registar told my Mum that as it was exceptional circumstances she would let her read the entry & not have to pay for a copy.
My Mum said she was so embaressed as she burst into tears as she read the cause of Death amongst others -Kidney Failure & the mention of War Wounds.
Now yesterday I decided to look& obtain a copy of the DC.Cause of Death-Parlaysis? of 2 & half years duration, pneumonia etc no mention of renal failure or the fact that it was caused by War Wounds.
So my question is do they not in fact transribe what is exactly on the original? This could also explain the difference in another Death Certificate re the cause of Death.
This was really important at the time as my Mum was trying to prove/disprove a familial cause for my Brothers Renal Disease & I presume other families may wish to do the same.
What other errors are made from original to Edinburgh & then on to SP?

The image that you see on SP is that of the original death register, - no transcription process involved, i.e. you are seeing the record as it was created at the time of registering the death.
As for buying a formal copy - an extract - from GROS, that will also be identical to the original death register entry with one possible exception which is, that, if there is an RCE then some of that RCE may replace some info on the original register entry, - but quite often the complete text of the RCE will be typed on the back of the extract.
Nowadays it's quite often the situation that the extract will be based around a photocopy of the original record, instead of being trancribed, - it all depends on the quality of the digitised image, the handwriting etc.

Variation in cause of Death.
Thanks for that Davie I think a trip to view the entry at Clydebank is called for to view the original as I am positive their is a difference to what is there & what Edinburgh have. There must have been a transcription from Registar Office & Edinburgh as they didnt have Faxes, scanners in 1919-what I mean is that somebody must have transcribed from the original entry at some point.
If this was the only error I would suspect my Mums memory but there is also another discrepancy in another entry & I remember my Mother discussing the possible link to my Brothers disease but I agreed with the Registrars theory that the Renal Failure was due to his Paralysis & therefore no connection. My Gran(sister of the deceased) had also sufferred Renal Failure but think this was due to other reasons too.By coincidence I have had two Aunts with Renal Failure but they were not Blood Relatives but the in-law variety.
Thanks for the prompt reply I will let you know if anything develops.
