Could someone please have a look at the marriage cert posted in the Gallery for William Blaikie and Christina Ritchie and let me know William's Mum's Name.

Margaret Lumsden. The writing is terrible. Dots everywhere, and the registrar does a really bad 'n'.

I'd agree - "Margaret Lumsden, now wife of James Ingles / Inglis" (not sure on spelling as difficult to tell.) Occupation looks like "Seamate"?

The name of Margaret's husband is Inglis (corrected from Ingles - tut! Mr Registrar) and James is a Seaman (a truly bad writer of 'n')

Unlucky if this is him. Looks like he was not registered until 1856. No 1855-bonus birth certificate.

Andrew's suggestion regarding the birth confirms my interpretation in relation to the marriage register entry of "Margaret LUMSDEN now wife of James INGLES" with the father shown as George BLAIKIE.

This infers that Margaret LUMSDEN and George BLAIKIE were never married, otherwise the entry should have been "Margaret BLAIKIE latterly INGLES MS LUMSDEN"..
