Death of Mary McDonald.....

Post by Jean Jeanie » Tue Oct 25, 2005 10:57 pm

Her death cert states"Relich of Lewis McDonald"

She was his wife. Marriage found on the IGI.

Why isn't she shown as his widow?

It transpires they are cousins(their father's are brothers) Does this have any bearing on things. Or is this an old Scottish term for widow?

Hi Jean,

Relict = widow

The origin of the word is from the same source as relic.

All the best,

Hi Jean

Just a useless piece of information on how people use terminology both past and present. :D

My late father never described my mother as Mrs Agnes Laurie when verbally informing individuals, government or company officials. He always stated she was Mistress Agnes Laurie. Which I found out was the correct pronunciation for the term misses which we so commonly use now. :D :lol:
