Just to restore an element of sanity to the situation, not only for Beverley but also any other newbies reading this thread, it's far from unusual for more than one TS regular to respond to a post, but it has to be a record that 6 (Montrose Budie doesn't count, - he's my non-Admin alter ego, - created and used so that I can view the site as an ordinary member) such members have responded within the space of 42 minutes from the original post.

And also not unusual for a wee bit of sidechat to develop !

Please don't be concerned Beverley, we'll treat you gently

Do you lot have a free pass to SP?
The lot of you are forgetting I KNOW NOTHING!
Tracey was wondering if because I had looked up George in 1880, if I was able to access the information on the Scotlands People web site for free. The answer, sadly, is no! But I was curious enough about that Geroge to spend credits looking him up to see if I could learn any more about his family - info which might help you out, from the birth entry.

Best wishes
Lesley
Since Beverley is having problems and you have paid your £1 couldn't you just post it the info here???

Post by Beverly » Sun Jan 29, 2006 12:03 am

Oh my goodness

Please don't spend your credits on me. I'm sure I'll be able to figure this out. I thank you - if that really is him.......

I'm so excited that it may be.

God bless you.......... all .......... for your help.

I wish I could keep you all up to date as I progress.

But we all love a puzzle, and it keeps up from gettin' fou doonrapub oan a Saturday nicht :!:

The problem here is going to be the derivation of the date of birth from the death certificate info; together with the lack of an exact match of the given names.

Some further research in Canada may be required in terms of other records, civil registration, and census, as well as the records of the organisation that sent him to Canada to see if anything can be found to match him up with the parents of wee George, Thomas FAWCET[T] and Martha FAWCET[T] MS McALLIESTER (that's what the marriage register entry shows !)

Hi Beverley
I have seen his death certificate.
I know nothing about the contents of Canadian death certificates - does it happen to mention his father's name?

Best wishes

Actually no. Now it would but back then it did not. I do not have his marriage date and will be requesting his marriage certificate which may have some info.

I'm flaboragasted by the tremendous response from all of you. I am going to sign off for now and spend this week requesting the documents. In a couple of weeks (or perhaps as early as next weekend) I will be back to follow this thread.

I am amazed, overwhelmed, ecstatic.................... I love you all!

The online IGI only goes up to 1875, so gives only the following for this family:

Marriage
Thomas Fawcet and Martha McAlliester
25-Nov-1873

Birth
Jane Fawcet, born 25-Jul-1873 Old Monkland
Parents: Thomas Fawcet and Martha McAllister

Another clue of consistency is in the right margin of the birth certificate. The "L" denotes the landward part of the registration district. Also the same address ass for the 1881 census - South Hillington.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson
