Hi all,
I searched today for Alexander Bowie aged about 28 on the 1901 census and found an entry for him in Blackfriars district. He is obviously in a lodging house, but there is no address given on the image. The address column seems to have been left off completely.
I don't want to spend another lot of credits just to see where he lived...am I able to ask Scotland's People for the address? Or is it even held by them somewhere?
1 1901 BOWIE ALEXANDER M 28 BLACKFRIARS GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/05 047/05 003
Very disappointed!!
Nina

Hello Nina
The same happened to me also. I contacted SP and someone kindly emailed me with the details - which turned out to be a Prison

At the top of the viewer page there should be a button marked "View Free Header" which allows you to see the introduction pages from the front of a census book. There are also "Page Before" and "Page After" buttons to move through the different introduction pages.
For an institution, these should give the name of the institution. For a household census book, these should detail the streets, or area in that census book.
The ActiveX and Java methods make viewing these pages quicker than the Direct Download method. As the name "View Free Header" implies, no credits are used to view these pages.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

Thanks Tracey and Andrew,
Andrew I looked at the Free Header page, and it only had something like "1901 census" and the district number which was 644-5 I believe.
Tracey, I wrote to SP, and they have sent me an email saying the query has been directed to someone, so hopefully I will be able to obtain some more information...hmmm...wonder if it IS a prison, hehe. I never thought anything other than a lodging house, but I suppose it could even be a hospital entry.
Hopefully I will find out soon.

Thanks for the wonderful advice...Andrew. I never looked beyond the first page of the Headers before...so now I will have to be more vigilant! I suppose I just didn't expect the extra pages to be there.
Well it turns out to be a home for working men and travellers, but I can't understand why Alexander was not with his family, since they were Glasgow at the time! Perhaps he was 'taking a break', hehe.
